What’s actually hard here

The constraints that decide the architecture.

Not the sector’s challenges in general. The specific things that make software for it hard, and that anyone proposing to build it should already know.

  1. Latency and quality are one dial

    Every improvement in a live pipeline — better recognition, better translation, cleaner audio — is bought with time, and time is the one thing a live audience notices. Under about a second the room stays together. Past a couple of seconds the translated audience is watching a different event to the one in front of them, and because they can hear the original in the room, the delay is not neutral, it is actively worse than silence.

  2. The venue's network is the network

    Broadcast systems are designed in a room with good internet and deployed in a hall that does not have it. The tools that keep a stream watchable on a bad connection buy that reliability with delay — out of a time budget that was already tight. That trade gets made per venue, on the day, not once in a diagram.

  3. African languages are where the vendors are thin

    The commercial speech pipelines are strong in French and German and weak in Yorùbá, Igbo, and Hausa — exactly inverted from what a Nigerian broadcast needs. Any honest system for this market has to design around what the models cannot yet do, which means putting a human where the machine is weakest rather than pretending the gap is not there.

  4. One slow channel must not be a slow broadcast

    If language channels share a pipeline, adding a fifth language degrades the other four, and the failure presents as 'the platform is bad' rather than 'one language pack is'. Channel isolation is not an optimisation here. It is the structural decision the whole system stands on.
